Patio awnings are one way to increase the enjoyment of your patio experience – especially when you are cooking outdoors. Patio awnings or canopies provide shelter from summer heat and much-needed shade on those sweltering evening cookouts. In addition, they give the impression of adding an outdoor room to the house.
Patio awnings are available in both manual and electronic styles. The manual style patio awnings allow the homeowner to manually adjust the depth, or pitch, of the awning’s fabric. You can choose to have the awning completely open or merely partially open according to your preferences. Automatic, or electronic, patio awnings are controlled by electronic arms. If investing in an automatic awning, it’s a good idea to make sure you have a manual override in case there is an electricity cut or some problem that prevents the mechanism working properly.
Alternatively, a wonderful range of parasols now exist and have the advantage of being easily portable. Make sure that they have solid bases though, as a parasol that collapses onto your carefully cooked dinner is a nuisance to say the least.
Fragrant, climbing plants help to create a relaxing atmosphere, whilst foliage plants help to create a cool restful ambience. Make sure they aren’t too close to the barbecue and that your guests aren’t being menaced by bees during the day. White roses or jasmine, climbing a trellis or pergola, give a sense of light to summer evenings which can be enhanced by white flowers in pots and by using tall white candles set on mirrors to give a sense of coolness and space.
